Presentation and composition
TABLETS
Each Relispa tablet contains 40mg drotaverine hydrochloride.
Each Relispa forte tablet contains 80mg drotaverine hydrochloride.
INJECTION:
Each Relispa 2 ml ampoule contains 40mg drotaverine hydrochloride.
Each Relispa forte 4 ml ampoule 80mg drotaverine hydrochloride.

RELISPA Tablets Uses:

 smooth muscle spasms connected with diseases of biliary origin,  cholecystolithiasis, cholangiolithiasis,  cholecystitis,  pericholecystitis, cholangitis, papillitis.
 Smooth muscle spasms of the urinary tract: nephrolithiasis,  ureterolithiasis,  pyelitis, cystitis, vesical genesis. As adjuvant treatments, they can be used effectively and safely.
 Smooth muscle spasms of gastrointestinal origin; gastric and duodenal ulcer,  gastritis,  enteritis,  colitis,  cardiac and pylorus spasm, irritable colon syndrome,  spastic constipation or gas syndrome,  pancreatitis.
Headache of vascular origin.
In gynecological diseases; dysmenorrhoea, adnexitis, strong labor pains,  tetanus uterine, imminent abortion.
 It is proposed to include drotaverine in the active drug treatment strategy of the placenta stage in order to facilitate the procedure of credit expression and to prevent incarcerations.

RELISPA Tablets DOSAGE:

Adults: The usual average dose is daily 120-240mg/day.
Children: >1 year old.  The use of drotaverine in Children has not been evaluated in clinical studies.  The usual average daily dose in this population is as follows:
40-120mg/day divided in 2 to 3 doses between 1 and 6 years.
80-200mg/day divided into 2 to 5 doses over 6 years.
INJECTION:
Adults dosage:
Drotaverine hydrochloride daily 40-240mg (used for 1- 3 times), subcutaneous or intramuscular injection.
EMERGENCY TREATMENT:
Acute stone colic (renal and/or biliary ): 40-80mg drotaverine hydrochloride was intravenously slowly injected (about 30 seconds) or non-narcotic analgesic drugs.
Abdominal spastic pain: 40-80mg drotaverine hydrochloride intramuscularly or subcutaneously,  when necessary,  can be repeated use, up to 3 times daily or oral 120-240mg drotaverine hydrochloride after use.
Esophageal or cardiac spasm: the recommended dose for 80mg drotaverine hydrochloride injection intramuscularly.
For shortening of the cervical dilation phase of labor: administration of 40mg I’m is proposed at the beginning of the first stage of labor. In case of ineffectiveness, this dose ( 40mg ) could be repeated once within 2 hours.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or to any of the excipients.
 Severe renal or hepatic failure.
 Severe cardiac insufficiency ( low output syndrome)
Children under 1- year old.

WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS:

In case of hypotension, the administration of this drug needs increased caution.
Relispa 40 mg tablets and Relispa forte tablets 80 mg contain lactose and are therefore unsuitable for people with lactase insufficiency, galactosemia, or glucose/galactose malabsorption syndrome.
Should be used with caution in pregnant inpatients with marked coronary atherosclerosis.
Drotaverine may be used as a part of combined treatment in the management of hypertonic crises.
It is as well as papaverine has no anticholinergic effects,  and therefore,  unlike cholinolytic antispasmodic, may be administered in patients with glaucoma.
* Coincidently, the preparation should be administered with caution in patients with prostatic hypertrophy (prostate edenoma) since due to detrusor muscle relaxation urine retention may occur.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Phosphodiesterase inhibitors like papaverine decrease the antiparkinsonian effect of levodopa. When drotaverine is administered together with levodopa, rigidity, and tremor may therefore become aggravated.
 Intensifies the effect of other spasmolytics ( including M- cholinoblockers), increase hypotension caused by tricyclic antidepressants,  quinidine,  and novocainamid.
 Concurrent use of phenobarbital has an additive beneficial effect on spasms.
The preparation reduces spasmogenic morphine activity.
Relispa TABLETS PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
Pregnancy: There is no evidence of teratogenicity from retrospective human and animal studies by oral route.
Nevertheless,  caution should be taken when prescribed during pregnancy.

LACTATION:

Because of the lack of available data, its administration during breastfeeding is not recommended.
Effect on the ability to drive and use machines.
Patients should be instructed if they experience vertigo they should avoid potentially hazardous tasks such as driving or operating machines.

Relespa Tablets SIDE EFFECTS:

Drotaverine is usually well tolerated.  During the clinical studies the following adverse events reported by investigators as at least possibly related to drotaverine are presented within each frequency grouping ( common >1%<10%; uncommon >0,1%<1%; rare >0,01%<0,1%) and system organ class:
Gastrointestinal disorders
Rare: nausea and constipation
Nervous system disorders
Rare: headache,  vertigo, and insomnia
Cardiovascular disorders
Rare: palpitations,  hypotension
Immune system disorders
Rare allergic reactions especially in patients with Hypersensitivity to a disulfide.
Relispa TABLETS OVERDOSE:
No case of overdose has been reported.  In case of overdose,  the patient should be closely monitored and managed by symptomatic and supportive care.  Suggested measures include emesis and/or gastric lavage.
