For children younger than six months of age as the effectiveness and safety of cefixime in these patients have not been proven.
AVOIDANCES THESE POEPLE
Cephalosporins are to be administered with caution to patients who are penicillin sensitive because there is evidence of cross-allergenicity in part between penicillins and the cephalosporins. Cefixime – Cefixime should be given with caution to patients suffering from severe impairment in renal function.
The use of wide-spectrum antibiotics can alter the colon’s normal flora and could lead to an increase in Clostridia. Pseudomembranous Colitis is a result of the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics (including macrolides semi-synthetic penicillins and cephalosporins) It is essential to be aware of its presence when patients experience diarrhea due to the treatment with antibiotics. It is possible for pseudomembranous symptoms to be present during or following the treatment with antibiotics. Broad-spectrum antibiotics like cefixime must be used with caution for patients with a history of digestive disease and colitis in particular.

Carbamazepine: Increased levels of carbamazepine have been reported, when cefixime is given concurrently. Drug monitoring could aid in detecting changes in the plasma concentrations of carbamazepine. Lab/Drug Interactions – A false positive reaction for ketones found in urine can occur when using tests that use nitroprusside, but not with tests that use Nitroferricyanide.
A false-positive reaction to glucose in the urine can be observed with Benedict’s or Fehling’s solutions, or with test tablets containing copper sulfate however not with tests that are based on the enzymatic reaction of glucose oxidase. The false positive of the Coombs test was documented in the course of treatment with cephalosporin antibiotics. Therefore, it must be noted that the positive Coombs test could be caused by the drug.
